Birth order?

[edit]

This article says that Charles was the youngest of eleven children but near the end, it says he has a younger brother. What gives? Grandma Roses 17:44, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've also noticed this. I've placed contradiction templates on the page for craig and his brother. ~Wilflet (talk) 01:00, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Isn't it an internal contradiction, rather than contradicting an outside article?58.174.177.151 (talk) 08:30, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I removed both sentences. Either should be re-instated as soon as we find a reference. Sancho 20:33, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, mr Sanchez, it looks like we don't meet again. what is that supposed to mean, I hear you ask? Well, it means that you havne't actually done anything about that contradiction. Instead you rely on the hard work of others to reorganise the page (me). Now, I'd like some compensation. 130.220.79.178 (talk) 04:34, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Craig Charles does have a younger brother. He appeared with Craig on RED DWARF episode TIMESLIDES, playing young Dave Lister. In the episode commentary Craig Charles said that was his brother.Lizspider (talk) 03:43, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Craig Charles has one older half brother on his mother's side, Jimmy Russell (b. 1959), and two full brothers, Dean (b. 1962, died 2014) and Emile (b.1971). 2.97.140.92 (talk) 20:17, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Published works (non-existent first autobiography)

[edit]

His supposed first autobiography, No Irish, No Niggers does not appear to exist. I suggest the reference be removed until solid evidence of its existence - such as it being on sale, anywhere, or any picture of it - emerges. See also 1. boiled_elephant (talk) 20:42, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Amazon.co.uk thinks it exists. (But has anybody ever seen an Amazon web page that was error-free?) Penguin have forgotten about it: they deny all knowledge of ISBN 978-0140268614.

I've added that the autobiographies are unpublished, and put in a reference to that. I'd prefer they stayed in the article in this state for the time being, since CC has stated that it's written and ready to be published if/when he decides to. I think it's just one book, updated with a new title, but I'm not certain.ClareGC (talk) 00:45, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Many years ago I requested a copy of this book via my local library, who would borrow books from other libraries on request. The request came back "The British Library [who are supposed to hold a copy of all books published in the UK] has lost its copy and there are no other copies." So I guess it existed at some point, even if there was no ISBN? 2.97.140.92 (talk) 20:09, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Describe as British or English?

[edit]

Wikipedia's guidelines are here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Biographies#Opening_paragraph

My thoughts are that he is most well-known for his career in the British entertainment industry (TV and radio), UK media, and for his live appearances (stand-up, DJ gigs, conventions) which are throughout the UK, rather than restricted to England. And that these are the reason he has an entry on Wikipedia. He’s also British by nationality. The only reason I can think to choose English, is that he was born in, and has always lived within, England.

My personal belief is that, as it's a biography of a living person, the article should use the description that the subject identifies most with. We may not have that knowledge though, if interviews, or his own work, haven't covered the topic. His heritage (mother born in Ireland, father in Guyana), and that he regularly refers to himself as ‘black’ and ‘mixed-race', may indicate he'd prefer the broader description of his nationality. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ClareGC (talkcontribs) 18:13, 28 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

He is not English. English is not a nationality. Father from Guyana and mother from Ireland and he was born in the United Kingdom. This makes him British nationality. No part of him is English. 2A02:C7C:AC54:9100:7C29:6251:F583:AA8D (talk) 19:51, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Eh? So people born in Liverpool aren't English?? Do you know how many people in Wikipedia articles are described as "English"? Martinevans123 (talk) 22:10, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
