[edit]I deleted the links to non-existing pages for their album titles because I do not think that each album deserves a definition because wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a music triva database. - Drstuey 13:21, 31 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Pretty POV, don't you think? If Wikipedia is to be a true encyclopedia, all such knowledge should be stored and available for access. A true encyclopedia would enclose said music trivia database, as well as art trivia databases, computer science databases, etc.
- Of course each album deserves an entry of it's own, if for no other reason than to list the tracks. Maybe you should revert the article to the way it was, and create instead of delete? Scottbeck 17:13, 31 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- hmm, I create a lot on wikipedia - I am one of the top 2000 editors apparantly - I just don't think that all of the Fanclub LPs are notable enough to warrant encylopedia treatment, unlike you I disagree that wikipedia should be a directory of music releases. - Drstuey 07:22, 15 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Quite interesting to look at this (18months later) and see that all the albums now have their own entry. It's reassuring to see that wikipedia is developing hugely (in all directions), even as a music trivia database. (RPA bah) Scottbeck 17:51, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
- Indeed, despite certain wikipedian's pretensions it's becoming clear to me that WP is never going to be a replacement for Britannica, it's a lot more useful than that. Capsule summarys of every Simpsons episode, Jabba the Hut as a featured article... I could go on. I wholly support this "ephemera" because in 50 years time it will be a fascinating snapshot of early 21st century culture but nobody should get up themselves & try to get too precious about what should & should not be an article. Obviously people putting up hagiography & obvious falsehood should be dealt with but if an artist has enough support to get a page created put up the albums with pictures - we don't have to pay the hosting bill :) Megamanic 03:13, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Um... that whole "generally considered the greatest power pop band" thing is INCREDIBLY suspect.
- Wished you'd signed that. I completely agree, I want to remove it too. Well lets see if 2 of us makes a concensus! Removed because: weasel words: "the greatest"; no refs or attribution; Posies: also non attributed PoV ranking of bands; "Power Pop" - as a brit, I have never heard of the term, maybe TF were called that in the US, if so, could go back in if there is a ref, otherwise since TF are a british band, I reckon should use british musical trend names. - Drstuey 07:22, 15 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- I agree that the Posies and Teenage Fanclub paved the way for guitar pop in the 1990s. Commercially, TF would probably be considered unsuccessful, yet in terms of influence, they were one of the most cited bands of the mid to late 1990s. As a semi-professional musician at this time, I can tell you that the "Big Star/Teenage Fanclub" point of reference was so overused that it was a running joke amongst guitar-pop indie-bands of the era. As for the Posies- I can only say that they are also big favourites amongst fans of this genre, albeit slightly less known in Europe. Although I try to avoid superlative, I do not think that saying "Teenage Fanclub were the most influential guitar-pop band of the '90s" would be so far from the truth.--Fergie 11:39, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
I have removed the influence of The Box Tops in TF sound. Big Star (the other Alex Chilton's group) are, with The Byrds, the obvious influence on TF jangly guitar sound. Chorse63 (talk) 17:24, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
Not Copyvio!
[edit]On 2 December 2005 this article was flagged as being a copyright violation, however, I believe that this is not the case and so I have removed the copyvio flag.
It is alleged that the article is copied from the 'copyright 2004' text at radiotakeover, and indeed the text of that page is identical to the wikipedia article as it appeared between 9 March 2005 and 3 June 2005. However, the text as it appeared at wikipedia at that time was not the result of a single large edit but rather a number of smaller incremental edits. In particular edits from 31 August 2004 and 6 September 2005 have shaped the article. There are two things of note about these edits. Firstly, although the resulting article was essentially the same as the alleged copyvio text, there are a number of important differences between it and the identical version of 9 March 2005. Secondly, these edits were made in August and September 2004, yet according to the Internet Archive radiotakeover did not even have an article on Teenage Fanclub in October 2004. So it seems that the text at radiotakeover was copied from wikipedia and not the other way round. JeremyA 02:01, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
Images
[edit]I've uploaded & linked to three live images I took at the Kings Park Perth WA concert a couple of years back. Look at the Gerard Love & Norm Blake pages. I haven't got a decent picture of Raymond so over to the rest of you! Megamanic 06:28, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Early in career
[edit]Early in their career, they were called "The Boy Hairdressers". I do not know how, but this band does not have a page, but the hyperlink should be redirected here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.51.75.185 (talk) 01:20, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
Gerard Love
[edit]Can someone make a page for him? He's the only member without one... kind of strange considering his importance to the band. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.131.65.236 (talk) 10:20, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
There was one in 2006 because if you look at the "Images" heading above it was mentioned. However someone has obviously decided in the intervening 5 years that TFC's most consistently successful songwriter is their least notable member. Some people act as though they have to pay the hosting out of their own wages. I can think of a word for them... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 159.207.201.36 (talk) 09:15, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
Someone jumped the gun on calling Gerry a "former member." He won't be leaving the band until end of year, after the Creation re-release shows in the U.K. I won't revert this edit unless there's consensus that it's premature Prguy72 (talk) 19:20, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
